Praying in God’s Word

1 John 5:14 “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” NIV.

Isaiah 43:26 Put me in remembrance; let us argue together; set forth your case, that you may be proved right.” ESV.

Praying according to God’s promises and Word in scripture helps us to grow in God’s wisdom and make effective prayers. As we know that the will of God is found in His Word; The Lord says that put me in remembrance, let us argue the matter together that you (we) may be justified. How can we talk to God in ignorance ie without His Word, what do we have to say even? God calls His Words “great and precious promises” and says that He watches over His Word to perform it. Numbers 23:19 says “God is not a man, that he should lie…”).

In Isaiah 55, He likens His Word to rain, “For as the rain and the snow come down and do not return without watering the earth and making it bloom and sprout and furnishing seed for the sower, so shall My word be that goes forth from my mouth. It will not return unto me void without accomplishing all that I desire and without succeeding for which it was sent.” We have to present His Word to Him to bare a witness.

A case in point, if we promised someone something and they come to us according to our promise, we do strive to fulfill what we promised, God takes pleasure in fulfilling His promises but He wants us to go to Him with them. When we pray the Words and promises God has already spoken, we are putting ourselves in agreement with Him — the creator of the universe. Speak the word of God, quote scripture and God’s promises while praying and He will fulfill them. This year as we continue praying and hoping for the best from the Lord, let us confront the throne of God in prayer with His Word and He will fulfill it. God bless you!!
